As strong as it gets. Kahaani is a true success story! 100cr club

So, here I am writing after a long time. It's dussera in India and we are worshiping goddess Durga. The form of energy or shakti.

We have holiday for this magnificent festival in India. I was at home and practically free for the entire day. We Gujaratis celebrate dussera by eating Fafda and Jalebi. So, yes we did feasted on this special occasion and had mouth watering jalebis.

In the evening I watched a wonderful movie called 'Kahaani', acted by Vidhya Balan and directed by Sujoy Ghosh, Written by Sujoy Ghosh and Advaita Kala. A quick Wikipedia search revels that it's production cost was just Rs. 8 Cr. It's surprising that the movie was produced in such a low budget. Wiki also says it earned more than Rs. 100 Cr. Now, that's an astonishing achievement for team Kahaani.

The movie is all about a female protagonist who is in search of her missing husband. It's a story of courage and strength and it revels the never say die attitude of us human. It's a strongly motivating movie, and can lead you during your difficult time. At the backdrop of movie is Kolkata and it's the time of Durga pujo in the city. I had already seen this movie in theatre when it was released in 2012 with my best friend. I was speechless then when the suspense of the story was revealed to me.

The same fascination and excitement I felt watching it again on Netflix today at home. What an awesome movie. Vidhya acted so nicely and gracefully for her role as Vidhya Bagchi, she performed so well that her acting looks effortless like as if it's real her not a role she is doing on a screen.

However, the strongest point of the movie, I felt is its story. So nicely told and perfectly filmed. It's a thriller movie and has a big suspense at the end. As I mentioned earlier, I was spellbound when the suspense revealed to me on big screen. The story is crafted in such a way that the tension is built intermittently and released and built again. And finally at the end the viewer is eager to know what is this all about. And when the big secret is revealed its a great relief for the viewer. Superbly told in the simplest possible way.

The background score of the movie is awesome. At one point Vidhya looses her hopes and feels disappointed. At that moment a very beautiful song sung by Mr Bacchan plays in the background called, "Ekla Chalo Re". It's so perfectly placed and so aptly played. The protagonist gears up for the task and get backs to work. It was March 2012, when I first heard the song and since then the song is one of my favorite. I often played it back then when I was down or felt little low. It gave me strength and showed path to walk on. Great lyrics and nicely sung by Mr Bacchan.

Also to mention about 'Mr. Khan' of Intelligent bureau played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui. What a performance! Superbly acted. He is the perfect choice for the role of Mr Khan. Those who have seen the movie can recall how he was manipulated and used by the protagonist for the final result. Nawazuddin is certainly another strong point of the movie.

Talking about direction, Sujoy Ghosh actually showed the real Kolkata to us on the screen. Durga Pujo in background and female protagonist leading the film was splendidly captured on camera. Mr Ghosh does not disappoint us in any way. He got it all correct from building tensions to relieving it and finally the big secret. However, what surprised me most is pregnant Vidhya, and the way Mr Ghosh handled it till the end. Awesomely directed.

8 crores, just 8 crores! I mean I can't even imaging that. How can one make a Bollywood blockbuster in India for that patty cash. And look at the earnings the movie has made, a huge 100 crores! Outstanding. Kahaani project is an awesome example of Bollywood movie success. Kahaani did not had any item number, no big names in acting except Vidhya Balan. And still it was liked by the audience and is a huge success in film industry.

For those who have not seen the movie, it's my request to you all go home and see that movie. You will be delighted and will immerse yourselves in the gripping story of the movie. Trust me it is one of the few movies which we tend to see in India. You will certainly not be disappointed a bit by watching the movie. But you need to watch it till the end to get the flavor of the story.

Till then, overwhelmed me, signing off....

Gratitude Diary

It's the second Saturday of new year, 2020. I was at cafe coffee day in the morning. Vasai CCD is a spacious outlet with great natural light. That abundant light gives life to the store. When I entered the store, I was in deep thoughts. I had just seen an inspiring Bollywood movie Tanhaji. The movie is so nicely crafted that it touched my heart deeply. 'Push for the best coffee experience' read the sticker on the entrance door. With my right hand I pushed the door open. As I stepped inside, sweet smell of coffee filled my nostrils and my brain. I felt relaxed and protected. The coffee has a magical effect on me. There were few occupants in the store, I found on my left, couple of empty seats. I occupied one of the chair and kept my shoulder bag in the other. The coffee counter was behind me. Albeit, bit far. In the beautiful January morning, in well lighted store, I felt warmth and I sat in the chair, in silence, thinking about my grateful life. I was ...

How Smartphones are killing our growth.

How Smartphones are killing our Growth? It is said that Smartphones were invented to save our time. I ask a question here, is smartphone really saving our time or rather killing it? Yes, this blog is about Smartphone and it's about to cut short their use. Smartphone is more addictive than cigarettes and alcohols. I can go further and claim that they are as addictive as narcotic drugs. When you are an addictive consumer of narcotics, you just want it more and more, you can't live without it. Same is the case with smartphones. The ping from your friend on whattsapp, the message on your facebook, and the like on your insta, are as addictive as a narcotic drug. We just can't live without checking those clicks, those pings, those likes and those messages. The result of all this is we have lost our attention span. The humans who have greatest attention span on this earth, have lost it to mere 8 secs because of smartphones. 8 seconds of attention span? Are you kiddin...

#TakeAStep, Dr Kalam and my learnings from him.

Dr Kalam, The People's President. My life lessons from the most beloved scientist in our country. Certainly the best scientist of his time and the best president of all time India has ever had. Dr Kalam is the inspirational figure for most of us Indians. He is second to none in igniting my mind and showing me path during my tough time. When we are disturbed, wounded emotionally and totally hopeless then you need a person who can come to you and whisper in your ear that, "Hey, everything gonna be alright, this isn't your life, don't get disappointed." For me that person is Dr Kalam. In my PhD I was devastated, I was broken down to pieces and I was humiliated and manipulated to such an extent that I got disturbed in my personal and professional life. I could not find a way out and was completely hopeless for life. In that dark phase, I got a ray of light from Dr Kalam's insight. I got inspired by reading his books. I got inspired by watching him on...
